Looking For 13th Birthday Party Ideas!

If you're fresh out of 13th birthday party ideas, you've definitely come to the right place. This is one milestone birthday that requires some special thinking.

When your child turns 13 and officially becomes a teenager, it can be a highly transitional time. Even if your son or daughter hasn't turned into the stereotypically rebellious teenager, they're still in store for a lot of changes in the coming years.

After all of this time watching your child grow up, you've probably grown used to throwing birthday parties that have clowns, balloons, and Harry Potter cake. With that said, I'd suspect you're probably running a little low on 13th birthday party ideas.

What can you do?

Well, as it turns out, you'll find 13th birthday party ideas that include every aspect of the party right here on this web site.

That's right! You don't want to put together a corny party with a toddler in mind, but you also don't want to skip straight ahead into adulthood either.

And because we support you on this, we're here to help you find some great ways to hit that "sweet spot" that strikes just the right note for your child's 13th birthday.

So if your head has been spinning, it's time to bring it to a halt and get to work producing a fun party that even a room full of teenagers can enjoy!

Let's get started with these 13th birthday party ideas.

Invites

Since your son or daughter is turning 13, it's probably time to ditch the old Sponge Bob Square Pants invitations and go with something a little more age-appropriate.

This doesn't mean the invitations have to be boring and dull; after all, 13 is hardly the age your child is ready to grow up and move to college.

Confused? Don't be.

Here's a template to word your invitation for the party:

Pillow fight! It's time for a great pajama party
to celebrate [your daughter's name]'s 13th birthday.
Come join us [time and date] and be ready for
popcorn, movies, and of course, gossip.
Let us know if you can attend by calling
[your name] at [your phone number].

If you're doing a theme that's more appropriate for your 13-year-old boy, use similar wording to tie the party theme into the invitation while communicating the same essential information.

For example, if you're holding a baseball-themed party, "Pillow fight!" would become "Play ball!"

Decorations

Simple 13th birthday party ideas to help you decorate! Remember...decorating for a 13th birthday party all depends on whether or not you've tied it into another theme.

If you're going with something like a slumber makeover party for the girls or a Star Wars trilogy movie night for the boys, then you can add in decorations that relate to and compliment those themes.

If you are mixing in an additional theme and are going strictly with the concept of "13", then you can purchase many decorating items online that highlight the "13th" birthday and that will blend in nicely with all of your other 13th birthday party ideas that you'll be implementing.

Items such as banners, tableware and party hats can make all the difference when transforming a plain room into a festive setting.

Crafts / Activities

When it comes to 13 year old's, you may want to consider our 13th birthday party ideas about what activities to do rather than crafts...at least for the boys in most cases.

Most boys will find making crafts a babyish thing to do at 13 and may not show much interest (they much prefer video games) however that may be different for the girls.

It all depends on their personalities and you, as the parent, know them better than anyone.

Just be sure not to embarrass them in front of their friends by picking something they'll consider to young for them. You might even want to discuss it with them before the party.

Maybe these ideas will interest them:

  • Bake some brownies and let them decorate them how they want to. Make sure to have lots of sprinkles and candy toppings and just set them loose.

  • Step outdoors. Plan an outing to a rock climbing facility or maybe even a bowling alley.

  • Get the group together for a photo. Then supply them with small wooden frames from your lcoal dollar store and all your craft supplies. Tell them to decorate their frames while you print out the photos. This makes a great party favor for them to take home and remember that party.

Although it can be difficult to come up with good 13th birthday party ideas for an activity or craft that teens won't "Boo" you for, it can be done and they usually end up having lots of fun with it too.

The trick is to get them started and to get the momentum going. Once they're having fun, they forget what they thought they didn't like in the first place.

Games

Everyone loves a good party game – whether you're 13 or 30!

The trick is to make them fun and creative in and of themselves, not simply because there's a prospect of winning a piece of candy at the end.

So what are some good party games for 13 year olds?

  • Spaghetti In The Bottle - Pre-cook a package of spaghetti noodles and place into a bowl. Divide your guests into 2 teams, each with one pair of gloves per team. Place an empty bottle (large plastic soda bottle will do) for each team on the other side of the room. Now in a relay style race, each team lines up and when you say "Go!", the first player from each team puts on the gloves, picks up 10 noodles and runs to the bottle. They then have to drop each noodle into the bottle without touching the bottle itself. When done, they run back to their team , pass over the gloves to the next person and the game continues. The first team to finish WINS!

  • Don't Make Me Laugh - Quite a simple game and does not require any props. Have everyone sit around in a circle. Starting with the birthday boy/girl, the have to attempt, using only facial expressions, to make anyone else in the circle laugh. They can't get up and leave the circle, but they are allowed to use their hands to assist in funny face making. The first person to laugh has to go next.

These are just a few 13th birthday party ideas for games that we've lined up for you.

Costumes / Props

If you're dressing up for the party, try to follow the theme as best you can. Without a specific theme, it's difficult to decide on how to dress in a costume for a 13th birthday party.

In most cases, you'll simply arrive in your regular streetwear clothing. But there will be some instances where the party is a costume party.

If that's the case, you can dress up however you want...sort of like Halloween.

Food and Drink

Food and drink selections are pretty easy for this age group.

You'll do fine with anything quick and simple and if given a choice, they'd love anything sweet and/or greasy.

Here are a few ideas for you:

  • Sandwiches
  • Pizza
  • Wraps
  • Snacks; like skittles, chips, M&M's, nachos, etc.
And for your peace of mind, add in some healthy items like:
  • Fruit platters
  • Veggies and Dip
  • Homemade fruit punch

Cake

The cake is a pretty easy part of planning when it comes to 13th birthday party ideas.

Everyone loves cake no matter what age they are at...the trick, however is to match the cake with the person and their interests without embarrassing them in front of their friends.

In the case of a 13 year old (or about to be 13), stick to their developing passions or what's popular with their age group at the time.

Here are examples of what I mean:

  • Have the cake created to be a designer shoe. Have a large "Nike" symbol iced onto it or a symbol from whatever shoe style is "IN" at the time.

  • Get a cake in the shape of the instrument they play. A guitar is a great example.

  • A favorite car for the boys or a favorite animal for the girls.
If you're not sure of yourself and you want to make sure you don't cause your child any grief, talk to them about your options and see what they have to say.

Unless it's a surprise birthday party, they already know they'll be getting a cake.

Why not let them choose the cake they want?

Party Favors / Loot Bags

Send your guests home with some neat, age appropriate gadgets and gifts. Give them something to talk about at school Monday morning.

Here are a few great 13th birthday party ideas for favors that you might want to consider:

  • Lots of candy...you just can't go wrong here!

  • Make a mix music CD to play at your party and make additional copies to send everyone home with.

  • Personalized M&M's and candy bars with custom wrappers.

  • Movie theatre gift cards. They don't have to be a lot...5 bucks is always a good start.
The point is, send them home with something they'll enjoy and/or appreciate as your way of thanking them for attending the party.
