Invitations are the first step to planning a party and should not be taken lightly.

They can be store bought, made from scratch or a combination of both.

Any way you look at it, your birthday invitations are the first impression your guests will have of your upcoming bash...so plan them out thoroughly and completely and make that impression a good one.

There are some basic steps that you should take when designing your own homemade invitations.

We've listed them below:

List The Details - List the actual birthday party details such as name, location, date & time and list those to be invited.

Construction Materials- Will the invite consist of a full sheet of paper or will it be tri-fold, bi-fold or even quarter-fold.

Gather Things Up - You'll need to gather the supplies required to actually make your invites. Things to consider are items such as cardstock paper, glue, pencil crayons, fabric, glitter, envelopes and even stamps for mailing. The list is endless.

Think Artistic! - Do you want to include clip-art...maybe some ribbons. How about a cropped photo of the actual birthday boy/girl?

What To Say - This is probably the most difficult part. It can be formal, informal, traditional or make it unique by creating a rhyme related to your theme.

Rough Draft - Before you actually go about creating your first invite, you should sketch it out. You can do this freehand or on your computer. The point is to create a design you're happy with before mass producing your invitations.

Create - Now you're eady to go! Have fun and try to include the birthday boy/girl if possible. This makes for great quality time together.
