Greasy, grimy, gross?
Awesome! Sounds like a Fear Factor Birthday Party!

Throw a Fear factor birthday party that stimulates the Ew!-Factor without pushing the envelope.

It's time to ditch the Mickey Mouse ears and head straight for the thrill zone!

Invites

Invite the Contestants....er, your party guests to Fear Factor.

Just because your child may be growing a little older and interested in birthday "thrills" doesn't mean they want to do away with the birthday "frills." That's why some creative invitations will still get two jobs done: communicating vital information to parents and setting the Fear Factor stage for your guests.

How do you accomplish both in one invitation?
By taking your vital information and adding the Fear Factor twist.

Buy some "scary" invitations – that is, if you can't find official Fear Factor birthday party invitations – and write in a message that goes a little something like this:

"You're invited to be a contestant on [your child's name]'s 'Fear Factor'!
Come celebrate [your child's name]'s birthday with us on [time and date].
You can find our studios at [your address].
Be ready for Fear Factor party games, deliciously gross treats, and prizes!
To RSVP the producer, contact [your name] at [your phone number] and let us know if you can attend.
Is Fear a Factor for you?"

The above template accomplishes both tasks: it lets everyone know the date and time and an RSVP number while offering a unique spin that sets the stage for Fear Factor birthday party games and treats.

Decorations

From Living Room to "Fear Factor Set"

Try these ideas:

  • Make sure to clear the room completely.
  • Hang a "Fear Factor" poster to help get people into the theme.
  • Add to the idea of a TV-set by placing a video camera on a tripod and really recording the event – it's a great way to kill two birds with one stone: getting footage of all the party games and making every guest feel like they're really a contestant.
  • Stick to yellow and black for your theme colors. Include items like balloons, streamers, banners and even T-shirts that can be purchased online.

Games

Since Fear Factor is a show that's essentially made up of monster-sized party games, your guests will be expecting that you go the extra mile.

Here are some great Fear Factor birthday party games to try:

  • Blindfold and eat! - In this game, you'll want to blindfold one contestant and have them reach into a box, feel a food, and eat it.
Here are some items to try out: peeled grapes (they feel like eyeballs), moistened gummy worms, pudding, and bananas cut out into balls. For added effect, add other things like "blood" (syrup or punch) to some of the items.
  • Gross bucket - Fill a bucket with items like cooked meat, meatballs, spaghetti, tomato sauce, tomato juice, and plenty of red food coloring. Set this bucket up in the backyard and establish two teams – requiring two buckets. Set a time limit of five or ten minutes and have each team send one kid at a time carrying as much from the full bucket into an empty one as he or she can – the team with the heaviest (now filled) bucket at the end wins the prize.

Costumes / Props

As mentioned above, you can find Fear Factor T-shirts online. With a little extra help from your Halloween decorations, why not add items like fake spiders and bugs all over it.

To make every guest feel like part of the Fear Factor experience; give them all safety goggles to wear, a regular item found on the show.

Food and Drink

Since most of your games will likely include lots of eating, there is no need to plan for an actual meal time for your Fear Factor birthday party.

You may simply want to arrange to have some basic sandwiches on hand for those with a weak stomach.

Oh...and have plenty of water to wash down any gross critters.

Cake

Depending on how old your child is, you'll want to create a special cake that matches the Fear Factor birthday party theme: you want to either have fun with the idea or simply go for more ew-factor. The older your child is, the more likely they are to enjoy a cake that seems genuinely scary to eat.

You can suggest scary cakes to your baker, but you can also bake a cake yourself. Using red syrup works great for blood effects, and you can use food coloring to make slime ooze, pus drip, and body parts pop. Just try not to serve this cake to kids who were already scared by the gummy worms.

Party Favors / Loot Bags

When it's time for the guests to leave, don't let them go without feeling glad they visited the Fear Factor studios. Since it's customary for TV shows to give their guests gifts, pretend that you're doing the same thing with your party favors.

Leave them with some fun, scary treats that play on the theme you've already explored, such as left-over gummy worms. Be sure to also include some Fear Factor merchandise like toys, games, and even the T-shirts used throughout the events.
