Zoinks, It's A Scooby Doo Birthday Party!

Help Scooby and the Gang dig up some answers to another mystery at this Scooby Doo birthday party. Don't let the villain get away!

Mystery Inc. is on the scene.

Invites

Scooby Doo is a popular enough brand that you won't have much trouble finding Scooby Doo invitations online. But if you have something extra special in mind, you can make your creative Scooby Doo invitations the first step to solving the mystery around your home.

Rokay!

Make your invitations fun yet mysterious and be sure you alert the parents as to what they can expect. Include the "When" and "Where" and anything else parents might need to know. Include an RSVP phone number so that you can answer any other questions.

If you want to set up fun "mystery" games, you can try to include that with the invitations.

For example, you could write:

"How can we find more clues to find the Black Knight?
You're invited to help us solve the mystery this [date and time]
at [Your child's name]'s Scooby Doo birthday party!"

With the mystery theme already laid in motion, your party games will be a cinch later on.

Decorations

Add to a fun atmosphere by decorating your home to fit Scooby Doo mystery themes.

Here are a few creative ideas:

  • Since Scooby Doo and his friend Shaggy frequently tour old, scary places, be sure to use old Halloween decorations. Fake spider-webs in wall corners work great, as do a few "ghostly" decorations.
  • Balloons and streamers in black, blue and purple will keep the mystery mood.
  • Play some mystery music (halloween music will work) softly in the background of the room.
  • If you prefer to stick strictly to Scooby Doo and to get away from the mystery element, you can purchase all kinds of Scooby Doo related items online at party supply stores.

Games

A Scooby Doo birthday party theme naturally lends itself to some great party games. If you've already gone through the trouble to introduce some mystery themes through the invitations and the decorations, your guests will want to set about solving the mystery.

Here's how you can put them on the case.

First, remember that the Scooby Doo mysteries always revolved around finding "clues." This lends itself to a scavenger hunt – take some time to cut out piece of construction paper and write some "clues" on them, with an ultimate solution to the mystery already in mind.

For each clue a child finds, give them a Scooby Snack.

Once enough clues have been gathered, get all of the kids organized and read all of the clues, and ask them if they've solved the puzzle. You don't need to make the mystery especially difficult to crack!

Costumes / Props

Get everyone involved by supplying some basic props to support your Scooby Doo birthday party theme.

  • In advance of the party, make enough "Dog Ears" for every invite and hand them out as they arrive. These should be fairly easy to make using headbands and some brown construction paper and pipe cleaners. You can even incorporate this into a craft or game and let the kids make their own.
  • Again, either before the party or as a craft during the party, have some dog tags issued to each child. These are easily made using brown cardstock paper cut into the shape of a bone. Write their names on them and punch a small hole into the top. Last, feed some string or ribbon through the hole and tie them very loosely around the child's neck. The tags should hang at chest level.

Food and Drink

Over there Shaggy...Scooby Snacks?

  • Bake up one of your favorite candy treats, place them into a bowl or on a tray and call them "Scooby Snacks". The kids will gobble them up.
  • Sugar cookies cut into the shape of dog bones and topped with candy sprinkles.
  • Dogs in a Blanket - This is your traditional "Pigs in a Blanket" but with a niftier name.
  • Green Monster Punch - Make a punch using equal parts of lemon lime soda and lemon aide. Add some green food coloring to finish the effect.

Cake

You can make a Scooby Doo birthday party cake at home using a traditional slab or round cake, order a custom cake pan online or have your local baker put something together for you....there are limitless options.

You can design a cake of Scooby's head, his full body, the Mystery Inc. Van, a shape of Scooby's paw or even an edible picture of the entire Scooby Doo gang.

Party Favors / Loot Bags

What better way to say "Thank you for coming" to your Scooby Doo birthday party than to prepare a "Doggy Bag" full of treats and toys.

Many party supply stores offer favor kits that you can buy at reasonable prices. You can always pack them up yourself with leftover treats from the party and some small related mystery toys.
