Use The Force When Planning A Star Wars Theme Birthday Party!

A Star Wars theme birthday party from a galaxy far, far away is still within your reach. So bring out the light sabers, decorate the Jedi Council, and keep reading: don't worry, the force will be with you along the way!

Now let's get to work planning a celebration that's out of this world!

Invites

You can buy a package of Star Wars party invitations online; that's probably the fastest and easiest way to immediately establish the Star Wars theme birthday party theme right away.

You can also get creative and make them from scratch. Here's an idea you can use:

Using black cardstock, make it look like a movie strip by punching square holes down the sides.
Fold the sheet in half and either draw (if you're artistic) or print out some Star Wars themed pictures and glue them on the cover.
Inside, begin to write your invitation wording (using a white gel pen) from the center of the top using smaller writing and progressively making your writing larger and wider for each line of words as you make your way down.
This will make it look like the traditional introductions from the Star Wars movies.

Here's an example of what you could write:

Invited You Are, Fulfill your Party Destiny You Must.
Young Jedi [child's name] has reached the age of [child's age] and can now participate in the Jedi trials.
He has requested your presence to participate as well on [date and time] at [your address].
Please advise the Jedi Council at [phone number] as to whether you accept this challenge.
May the force be with you!

Add some flair and make it fun! After all, it is a party!

Decorations

From Living Room to Jedi Council Chambers.

When the day of the party arrives, nothing will quite get every child in the Star Wars theme birthday party mood faster than some lively decorations. But what exactly constitutes a "Star Wars decoration?"

How about these ideas:

  • Start off by clearing out the room and setting up some chairs in a circle to represent the Jedi Council chambers.
  • Use black tablecloths to cover windows, walls and furnishings that are not in use. The object is to darken the room as much as possible.
Replace your lamps bulbs with colored lights such as blue or black to give that council chambers feel.
  • Balloons and streamers should be in blue or black to be in line with this theme.
  • Print out any pictures or hang any posters that you might have relating to Star Wars. Also, place any toys or Star Wars figures on your wall units or end tables to add to the feel.

Games

Once the entire Jedi Council chamber is seated, you're ready to start a few Star Wars theme birthday party games. Having everyone sit in a circle is a great way to introduce these games.

Here are some Star Wars party game suggestions:

  • Womp rat, womp rat, Jedi! - This is a simple modification to the time tested game "Duck, Duck, Goose".
  • Star Wars Charades - Have your little Jedi's play a game of charades by having them act out various Star Wars characters without saying names or places.
  • Escape the Death Star - Cover a styrofoam ball with aluminum foil and play a game of "hot potato" using a favorite Star Wars theme song like Imperial March.

Costumes / Props

The great thing about the Star Wars universe is that there are so many characters you could choose to be.

In case some of the children did not dress up, have some props ready in order to make everyone feel a part of the action.

Set up a face painting station and paint the faces of the kids to match their favorite characters.

You can also keep some capes, masks and helmets close by.

Food and Drink

Jedi's in training will get hungry. Have some refreshments on standby and plan a few filling treats as well:

  • An easy fix is simply a snack item (like trail mix) poured into a bowl labeled "Jedi Food". You can also label a pitcher of fruit punch with "Jedi Juice". You'll be surprised at how enthusiastically the kids gobble this up.
  • Make some "Yoda Soda". Simply mix some lemon lime soda with green punch.
  • Custom M&M's - visit the corporate site and order some customized M&M's. You can get them in all one color or mixed. We suggest all green with a saying like "Jedi Fuel" for example.

Cake

There's nothing that quite caps off a great Star Wars theme birthday like a lively Star Wars theme birthday cake. It's best to get in touch with a baker some time beforehand if you plan on ordering one so that it will be ready for the special day.

Another option is to order a custom cake pan online featuring your child's favorite character.

For an easy option, try this:

Bake a sheet cake the size that you need. Draw the outline of your character on the cake using a #5 round tip and icing . Mistakes are easily corrected by simply scraping off the icing and starting over. Finally, cut away the cake outside of the outline and finish decorating the inside portions.

And there you have it!! A Star Wars birthday cake masterpiece!

Party Favors / Loot Bags

When it's time to go, make sure that your guests go home with a little something to show mom and dad that they had a good time.

Simple things like preparing a small bag of leftover Jedi Fuel ("M&M's) and adding some small theme related toys, tattoos and anything else you can think of. You'll find many ideas for loot bag fillers online.
